MusicCubeOne, a simple music player with a useful progress bar
by admin on Mar.12, 2010, under Audio & Video, OS Vista, OS XP, Operating system
Although this is a small music player it still has quite some features. For example: it is skinable, you can drag drop songs on it, it has a playlist( Alt 2) etc. A cool feature is it shows the whole playlist in the seekbar. Every square in the seekbar represents a song. When hover over them it will show you the song and if you click them it will jump to that song. It also plays midi files and has a visualization specific for midi notes. Although it won’t beat the very nice way midiJam

miniMIZe, Small desktop enhancing application that catches the windows that you minimize and places them in thumbnails
by admin on Mar.12, 2010, under Desktop, OS Vista, OS XP, Operating system
In windows 7 you have a taskbar preview feature. The moment you hover over the taskbar of a process you get a preview thumbnail. MiniMize does it differently. It takes a snapshot of the window you minimize, removes it from the taskbar (in most cases it can’t, you can also disable this feature) and places it on your desktop as a thumbnail preview. To some degree you can even set it’s size and transparency. You can even decide in which order they are displayed: (from upper left to the upper right or vice versa),( from the upper right to the bottom right or vice versa) etc. You can drag the thumbnails around or pin them to the desktop. It even shows the application icons on the thumbnail. You can add keyboard shortcuts to it. for example if you want to hide and show the thumbnail preview. And if you are picky about which application it should thumbnail an which not you can add it to an exclusion list.
You must been thinking now: “Cool but aren’t there any drawbacks?” I have been using for a while now and I must say the only drawback is that it hasn’t been updated for quite some time. So you would think it wouldn’t work on for example Windows Vista. Well I tried it in comparability mode and it works as a charm. Best of all it’s free. What is my computer doing?, Monitoring your hardisk and CPU.
by admin on Mar.11, 2010, under OS Vista, OS XP, Operating system, Security, Utilities
You see your hardisk led blinking or you can hear it reading or writing something. But what is triggering this event? Well this application “What is my computer doing?” , tries to give you some information about what is accessing your hard disk or using the CPU. It giveq a detailed information about the application and gives you direct links to useful sites where you can find more information about the process or check if it’s some kind of malware.
Spindown:
What is also nice about it is that if even the process doesn’t access your hardisk anymore it will show, how many seconds ago it was accessing your harddisk. This particularly interesting if for example you want your harddisk to spindown. But some process is keeping it awake by accessing it with intervals for a very brief moment. Now it will be easier to find the culprit of this and maybe you will find a solution. This way your notebook\laptop will use less power so you can work longer on your notebook\laptop. It’s freeware!

Workarounds to exploit: vulnerability involving the use of VBScript and Windows Help files
by admin on Mar.02, 2010, under Browsers
In short: When you are using the internet explorer browser and running it on Windows 2000, XP,or Windows 2003 Server. Then you should be carefull when a webpage dialog window pops up and asks you to press F1.
Our investigation has determined that Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Vista are not impacted. Only Windows 2000 and Windows XP are impacted by default. Windows 2003 Server is also impacted, but the issue is mitigated in the default configuration due to the presence of the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration. With this issue, it is possible for a malicious web page to display a dialog box which will trigger the execution of arbitrary code when the user presses the F1 key. The prompt can appear repeatedly when dismissed, nagging the user to press the F1 key. Platforms are affected regardless of the Internet Explorer version installed.
